Sextant Wines and 10knots Cellars
…Enjoy the journey
Late summer is when winemakers closely watch their grape clusters, eager for them to ripen into the perfect balance of sugar, acidity, and rich flavor necessary to produce phenomenal wines. This is the time we sample, test, and taste each and every vineyard block to determine when the fruit will mature to express its full character. For one of Sextant’s varietals, the wait is over… we harvested our first fruit of the year three weeks earlier than expected. While we usually wait longer to produce a delicious late harvest Sauvignon Gris, this year we picked the grapes early to create a crisp white wine with no residual sugar. We look forward to the evolution of this particular wine throughout fermentation and aging.
An extraordinary year for Sextant Wines, we are so thankful to share the opening of our Estate Winery and Hospitality Center with our faithful Wine Club. We are just shy of officially opening the gates to the sloping driveway of our new home in Paso Robles. After passing through our massive “Adelaide Gold” stone entry, you’ll approach a magnificent archway formed to house prehistoric clams native to the land. Hand carved teak and Peruvian walnut doors lead you toward the tasting bar, encompassed by glass panel windows and natural light. Beyond this space lies our promised oasis: the members-only VIP lounge. From the lush interior to the balcony views of our cellars and bottling facilities, our private lounge will attract you time and again for a soothing tasting experience.
This past year has brought bountiful surprises with a late spring frost, wet and rainy weather at bloom time, and now early fall rains. Regardless of Mother Nature’s fitful challenges, the fruit quality for 2011 is exceptional. The cool growing season has resulted in the crop being quite light, with some areas expecting just a 50% normal crop. It’s also provided us with small, flavorful berries offering great acidity and balance -- just how we like it! As many of you know (or may not know), our biggest surprise was the proposition of our new location on 46 West. We are so excited to give Sextant an identity and a home where we can produce all the wines we know and love. Our new location offers a picturesque setting in the heart of Paso Robles where we can enjoy wines and festivities in style.
Farming is an integral part of the winemaking process – by far one of the most important aspects in creating a phenomenal bottle of wine – though it’s often forgotten by most people when enjoying a glass. This year is one to appreciate farming; Mother Nature’s ever-changing attitude continues to keep winegrowers on their toes, and likely in coffee shops due to lack of sleep! For the farmer, 2011 has extended the chal-lenges of 2010’s vintage.
A new chapter in the history of Sextant Wines has begun. Sextant Wines is pleased to announce that we have recently secured a new property and facility at 2324 West Highway 46 in Paso Robles, California. This location will serve as the new home of Sextant Estate Winery and Hospitality Center in Paso Robles, complete with a VIP Room just for you, our Wine Club members! The new facility is projected to open in Fall 2011. In the renderings displayed below you will get a glimpse into what the new facility will potentially look like once completed. We will be sure to keep everyone informed as to the actual Grand Opening date. We thank you for your patronage and look forward to you being a part of our new journey!
